Peter Nickless, was born in a Rotherham mining community but has lived all over the UK. Now retired, he spent 30 years working in heritage and historical contexts, and has contributed as an author, editor and collaborator in numerous history books.
Raised by a single parent in the 1950s and 1960s, his early life was marked by significant hardship and poverty. Leaving school at the age of fifteen without formal qualifications he spent years working as unskilled labour, but harboured an unwavering ambition for greater achievements. Through relentless determination and dedication to part-time education, he earned several degrees along with postgraduate qualifications that eventually helped him realise his lifelong dreams
The backdrop of Peter’s early life has profoundly influenced his latest work, ‘Hard Labour: A Boy’s Journey through Adversity to Resilience’, a sometimes funny, sometimes dark, memoir that navigates the complexities of his formative years with both humour and poignancy. His book is a fascinating exploration of social history that offers captivating insights into the historical events experienced during his childhood.
His expertise on past times, combined with his insightful narrative style offers readers a unique perspective on both history and personal resilience.
